A Diamond’s Big C: the First Step in Choosing the Most-Coveted Gemstone

Diamonds are deemed to be the ‘most sought-after’ in the world of gemstones. Its use as an adornment can be traced back up to the ancient times. Known for its lasting beauty and classic elegance, women have always been drawn to them. So, how does a girl choose her own best friend? Let me give you one of the best and the initial determining factors:

The Cut

Upon mining, diamonds initially appear as irregularly shaped stones and therefore go through a series of processes known as “cutting”. These soon-to-be gemstones are particularly hard and brittle at the same time. This is why diamond cutting is considered to be a very delicate method which requires the proper knowledge, superb tools, and years of mastery. A proper cut would optimize a diamond’s lustre.

The cut also pertains to two separate features of a diamond’s façade. It may refer to the gem’s shape, and its quality of workmanship.

Some of the well-admired shapes are the following:

•    Round Brilliant Cut Diamonds – one of the most popular cut given to this gemstone. 70% of diamonds have this shape
•    Cushion Cut Diamonds – these diamonds can range from square to rectangular shape with rounded corners. Cushion Cut is also known as ‘old mine cut’.
•    Radiant Cut Diamonds – it is often used to make the most of the shade of fancy-colored diamonds. Radiant Cut Diamonds are said to be a combination of the radiance of the Round Brilliant Cut and the sophistication of the Emerald Cut.
•    Oval Cut Diamonds – this cut is rarer compared to the princess cut or the round cut diamonds. If you want a more exceptional style, this is a good option.

For superb and assured quality you may prefer either the EGL Certified Loose Diamonds, or the GIA Certified Loose Diamonds.
